A bomb explosion occurs at the Brooklyn Marathon. The explosion effected about a 1.5 mile radius. Ambulances are starting to pull up to CCT with some of the survivors.
Your first patient is a 56 year old male with no PMH and complains of BL ear pain, chest pain and shortness of breath. Vitals are 135/63, HR: 90, RR: 20, Sat: 97% on NRB. EMS reports his LLE is severely mangled and a tourniquot has been placed. After putting him on the monitor, you notice that his vital signs are decompensating and he is having increased respiratory distress. Suddenly, he becomes apneic.
PGY-1 Describe the types of Blast Injuries and different organ systems effected.
PGY-2 Describe management and use of tourniquets in the field. Describe an extremity crush injury.
PGY-3 Are there predictors for patient mortality in blast events?
PGY4/5 You are having a crazy day! An active shooting has been reported near the hospital. You get a notification that you’ll be getting multiple victims. Unknown vital signs and injuries. You look at your watch and sigh; it’s only 2 hours into your shift.
